EYES, WHISPERS, CD JAZZNOW

"Award winning singer Gregory Abbott kicks off engagingly with "8 Days A Week." Singing a groove ballad, pop style edged with Jazz overtones (now and again). Fifteen songs, all written intelligently by Abbott shows he has the touch (he majored in psychology), though his words lean heavily towards the pop mode ..... his voice is amazingly flexible, playful, light, urbane and very sexy; he has intelligent green eyes (I am told).

Plenty of foot tapping numbers though, with some decent harmonic content in the background vocals. Highlights, "8 Days A Week," "He Said, She Said," "Without You." .... FERDINAND MAYLIN

BILLBOARD :

"Mining familiar sensual territory on tunes like "Sexual" and "I Like What You Do", Abbott veers in a jazzier R&B direction this time around with Caribbean spicing.

The New Jersey-San Francisco based artist penned all the tunes except for the Otis Blackwell classic "Handyman".... "In addition to planning spot gigs in the U.S. and tours in Europe and the Caribbean, Abbott is also busy pursuing acting and film/TV writing projects.

MUZIKMAN

"With the soulful funkiness of Al Green and the smoothness of Al Jarreau, Gregory Abbott takes you down a street called desire on "Eyes, Whispers, Rhythm, Sex" Abbott finds his way through 15 tunes full of the warmth of pop music and the Caribbean sun to the sultry mysteries of love and romance with funky and soulful expressiveness.

The elemental forces that drive him are his heritage, life experience, and craftiness in arranging a song with the right words backed by stellar musicianship. "Rhythm Rhyme" is the best example of several excellent tracks of infectious grooves that Abbott lays down with his top-flight band. Not only is he a talented vocalist, he plays guitar, keyboards, and does the arranging, producing, and sequencing on the album. His voice is so strong it serves as another powerful instrument. That kind of across the board talent is hard to ignore.

If you do not get into some kind of groove listening to this music, I suggest you check for a pulse. This is a rock steady group of tunes with consistency from beginning to end. This CD is both relaxing and inviting, how could you pass on feeling that good? ".

ROLLING STONE

"Platinum artist Gregory Abbott has come out with another infectious, sultry, and seductive album with the release of Eyes, Whispers, Rhythm, Sex.... This time, much of the credit in the attraction to the album must go to the production, marvelous musicians and background vocalists, who have molded this classic piece of musical artistry. "Eyes, Whispers..." features 11 fresh, new and vibrant tracks sure to please listeners who are acquainted with Gregory Abbott's work. Four of the songs from the album -- "Handyman (the first single)", Do the Caribbean," "Seasons Change" and "Without You" -- were released previously on One World! (an international only release).

For those who are not yet familiar with Abbott, this album will give them an opportunity to experience one of the greatest crooners of this period.

"Paradise" should get special attention because of the neat effects and nuances that give it a true new-millennium sound -- a sound which shows that Gregory Abbott is forging ahead with his music. Listeners are sure to be attracted to his sultry material but the effects give his music another fresh dimension. Leaning slightly on the hip-hop genre, this new approach lends the song its uniqueness and attractiveness. "8 Days a Week" runs a close second for the favorite pick of the album. It kicks off on a great beat with a Little Feat-style boogie, again showing just how versatile this amazing artist is; to be able to flow freely from one style to another with the same superiority is quite a feat.

A release filled with Gregory Abbott's trademark "groove ballads" and suave vocal ability, Eyes, Whispers, Rhythm, Sex... blends in well with any pop collection of albums. However, it is the little strays from the well-beaten path that really make this album attractive to the masses.
